Programs
The sanctuary operates through a set of interconnected program areas that support the care of 100 residents across 55 acres. This model reflects a commitment to consistency, safety, and long-term sustainability—carried out through a lean, highly disciplined approach with limited resources and no administrative staff overhead.
Each area represents a core function required to maintain high standards of care and ensure this work can be sustained over time.
Care & Lifelong Support
Ensuring consistent, individualized care from intake through end of life.
This pillar reflects the central responsibility of the sanctuary: providing stable, responsive, and lifelong care for individuals with complex histories and, in many cases, complex medical needs. Care is continuous and adaptive, requiring both proactive planning and the ability to respond decisively when conditions change.
This work is carried out through:
-
Veterinary Innovation & Lifelong Care
-
Resident Intake & Lifelong Care
-
Proactive health monitoring and individualized care planning
-
Coordinated veterinary access, including emergency response beyond standard service areas
-
Structured intake, quarantine, and intentional integration
-
Lifelong care decisions grounded in safety, capacity, and long-term sustainability
In Q1 2026 alone: 29 veterinary visits and 3,619 miles traveled for care, alongside 37 on-site health checks and 156 laser therapy treatments.

Operations & Infrastructure
Maintaining and building the systems required for safe, reliable, and resilient operations.
The ability to provide consistent care is directly tied to the strength of the sanctuary’s infrastructure and operational discipline. This includes habitat development, essential system maintenance, and comprehensive safety planning across a large and varied landscape.
This work is carried out through:
-
Sanctuary Infrastructure, Safety & Habitat
-
Professionalism, Accountability & Sustainability
-
Development and maintenance of species-appropriate habitats
-
Electrical, water, and fencing systems critical to daily operations
-
Safety planning and emergency preparedness across all areas of the sanctuary
-
Transparent operations and disciplined resource management supporting long-term stability
Following an 11-day summer water outage, critical well system upgrades were implemented to strengthen long-term reliability.
A climate-controlled stall was also developed to support advanced medical care.
Engagement & Impact
Extending the work beyond the sanctuary through community, education, and strategic communication.
The sanctuary’s impact reaches beyond its physical boundaries. Through structured community involvement, grounded education, and intentional digital communication, this work connects with a broader audience while reinforcing the values that guide it.
This work is carried out through:
-
Volunteer & Community Engagement
-
Education & Advocacy
-
Digital Reach & Global Impact
-
Consistent volunteer and guest engagement that directly supports operations
-
Education grounded in lived experience and resident-centered narratives
-
Digital communication that expands reach and visibility beyond the local community
-
Ongoing engagement that strengthens both support and understanding of the work
In Q1 2026 alone: 607,000+ digital views and 71,000+ interactions, with the majority of engagement coming from outside the existing supporter base.

This is what it takes to sustain the work.
Providing lifelong care at this level requires more than intention. It requires structure, consistency, and the ability to uphold high standards over time—particularly within a resource-constrained environment.
Support for the sanctuary strengthens each of these program areas, ensuring that care remains consistent, responsive, and sustainable for every resident.
