ARE YOU INTAKING ANIMALS
To ensure the residents have the proper pasture space, care, and resources they need to maintain a happy, healthy, and balanced life, we must be responsible about the amount of animals we can intake.
Most requests come from owner surrenders, and of those the highest surrender request is for roosters. This is due to keeping backyard flocks and hatching eggs. Every egg has a 50/50 chance of being male, and by and large the males are unwanted or can't be kept due to city ordinances. Roosters face a grim fate.
In our hearts we would like to help everyone, however we simply do not have the financial resources or space, to responsibly accommodate every request we get. We help as many as we can, but all sanctuaries have financial, land, and staffing constraints that they must work within to ensure they are operating responsibly.

While we evaluate each request, the amount of inquires is overwhelming and our team is very small. We do our best to assist, but unfortunately there are limitations to what we can do.
Caring for an animal, especially a farmed animal, requires huge financial and time investments. Some species can live for 40 years. Please take these factors into consideration before deciding to add to your family.
HOW DO I REGISTER TO VISIT

WHAT ABOUT RAIN
We operate 365 days a year. All events and volunteer days are rain or shine.
We recommend checking the weather forecast before heading to the sanctuary so you can be prepared for the weather conditions of Warm Springs and can dress accordingly.

The only reason we would cancel is due to severe thunderstorms or a tornado watch. In this case, you will be contacted by an FCFS team member.
IS THE SANCTUARY MOBILITY AID FRIENDLY
The lodge where we gather is upstairs. The tour path we traverse has unpaved roads and portions are uphill.
During Guest Days, visitors stop by most of the pastures and can meet the residents from outside the fence. Visitors with wheelchairs or other mobility aids will be able to participate.
If you have questions or require accommodations, please contact us at info@fcfsanctuary.org
to ensure we can make your experience as wonderful as possible.
CAN I BRING MY DOG
For safety to all, as well as the stress level of the residents, outside animals are not allowed on the property. This includes dogs. If you have a service animal, please email info@fcfsanctuary.org to make accommodations.
Even with the AC running, leaving your dog in the car is not permitted. If you arrive at the sanctuary with a non-service dog you will be asked to leave.
CAN I BRING FOOD
Out of respect for the residents and the FCFS mission, no animal products are to be consumed anywhere on the sanctuary grounds. You can bring food items as long as they are vegan (no meat, dairy, cheese, eggs, honey, or similar items). Guests who do not abide by this rule will be asked to put their items away.

This also applies to the FCFS event space rental opportunities. We can provide a list of vegan friendly vendors, guide you on where to find recipes, or where to buy vegan products.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED
We're south of Atlanta, near Pine Mountain. We are also centrally located to Columbus, and Auburn, Alabama.

961 White House Pkwy
Warm Springs, GA. 31830
The sanctuary neighbors the
F.D. Roosevelt State Park providing hiking and camping opportunities. The state park is also the historical site of Roosevelt's Little White House. We are also 13 miles away from Callaway Resort & Gardens.
I'M FROM OUT OF TOWN

CAN I PET THE ANIMALS OR HUG THE COWS
The residents are enjoying their peaceful
retirement. While some appreciate human interaction, others do not. We honor each resident's autonomy and respect their boundaries. We do not require them to interact with us or visitors. Unless it's for care or medical purposes, all interactions are on the terms of the resident.
The cows have developed their own schedule for moving around the pasture. This includes rotations deep into the woods with steep uneven terrain. The herd typically prefers to keep to themselves and are not one of the groups who seek human interaction.
The best opportunity for resident interaction is by volunteering as you will be inside the pastures.
WHAT IF I'M LATE
If you are late for a Guest Day, you will join the tour as it is happening. Our team is very small. This means we don't have the ability to run multiple tours at the same time.
ARE THE ANIMALS ADOPTABLE
FCFS is a forever home, we do not adopt out. The residents have made it to sanctuary after enduring hardship. We want them to feel safe, secure, and enjoy their days in the stable environment where they have healed and cultivated relationships. It would not be fair to them to sever those bonds.
HOW ARE YOU FUNDED
FCFS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, completely funded by public donations. The generosity of the FCFS supporters enables us to honor the lifelong commitment made to the residents, continue working to educate, advocate, spread awareness, plant the seeds of change, and assist other animals in need.

Aside from the small Animal Care Team who tend to the daily needs of the residents, there are no other paid employees of the sanctuary. Anything that falls outside of animal care is managed by the three volunteer board members who balance their full time careers with their responsibility to the sanctuary.
Having no administrative staff ensures all funds are going directly to the care of the residents and to the organization which is their home.
The sanctuary is only open to visitors on specified dates. We invite you to participate in a free Guest Day tour. For information or to register click here.
We also have scheduled Group Volunteer and Vegan Potluck Days. For volunteer opportunities click here.

Private tours are available on a limited basis and with a donation of $150. For private tour information click here.

The lodge can be rented for event hosting, conference space, or team building. For event space rental information click here.

All donations and proceeds go directly to the care of the residents and the organization that is their home.

WHAT IS A GUEST DAY
An FCFS team member will take you around the sanctuary to meet the residents, hear their stories, learn about those they represent, and the work we do. This event is a 90 minute moving tour that occurs outdoors during all weather conditions.
The sanctuary is on 55 acres. While we only traverse a small portion of this, there is a good amount of ground to cover. The path we take has unpaved roads and parts of the tour will be uphill.

Please wear comfortable close toed shoes. We recommend bringing water and sunscreen, and wearing clothing that will keep you comfortable in the forecasted weather conditions of Warm Springs.
WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT ON A DAY THAT YOU'RE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
You're welcome to join a Group Volunteer and Vegan Potluck Day or sign up to for an independent volunteer shift. Private tours are available on a limited basis and with a $150 donation. For questions email info@fcfsanctuary.org
CAN I BRING
SOMETHING FOR THE
RESIDENTS
If you would like to bring the residents something special, we always need produce, peanut butter, and Amazon and Tractor Supply gift cards.
The resident's favorite produce items are blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, bananas, romaine lettuce, spinach, zucchini, squash, apples, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe and pumpkins.
CAN I FEED THE ANIMALS
To ensure their optimal health, all the residents are on specialized diets. For this reason, only our Animal Care Team are able to feed the residents. Occasionally and under the supervision of the Care Team, volunteers may be asked to help pass out produce.

When you attend ThanksLiving there is an opportunity to participate in our Pumpkin Party for the pigs. This is a crowd favorite!
If you would like to donate produce to the residents, the Care Team will be happy to give it out during scheduled meal times. The residents enjoy blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini, squash, spinach, romaine lettuce, pineapple, and pumpkins.
