Another Year. Another Reason to Celebrate.

Birthdays are synonymous with parties, presents, and celebrating with friends and family. They're often filled with laughter, special traditions, and a favorite meal topped off by a sugary confection made just for the guest of honor.
Sanctuary birthdays aren't all that different.
They may not include balloons or candles, but they are every bit as joyful.
On Saturday, Brando celebrated his 10th birthday, while Hazel, River, and Magnolia, the three "Littles", turned six. To mark the occasion, each received a beautifully crafted birthday cake made entirely from fresh fruits, thoughtfully prepared with their favorite treats in mind.
And because no celebration at the sanctuary is complete without friends... the entire pig herd was invited.
A Party the Whole Herd Could Enjoy
No one celebrates alone at the sanctuary.
While Brando and the Littles were the guests of honor, every pig was invited to the party.
The entire herd in the big pasture gathered around thoughtfully prepared slices of cake made just for them. Across the way, Ewa and Olivia, call the limited mobility pasture home, enjoyed their own celebration, and the potbellies certainly weren't about to miss out on the fun.
Everyone received a special assortment of fresh fruit, thoughtfully prepared with the same care and love.
Making the residents happy is our goal every day. Giving them something extra to smile about is simply the icing on the cake. Because joy is just as much a part of lifelong care as food, shelter, and veterinary medicine.
A Party the Whole Herd Could Enjoy
If you've never watched a herd of pigs celebrate a birthday, you're in for a treat.
There was plenty of munching, crunching, and the unmistakable sound of happy pigs slurping up sweet fruit juice. Beautifully arranged birthday cakes quickly became shared celebrations as some residents happily enjoyed their own while others decided a neighbor's looked just a little more tempting. There was a little swapping, a little borrowing, and the occasional unapologetic "I'll be taking that, thank you very much."
By the time the celebration came to an end, every last bite had disappeared.
It was joyful. It was wonderfully chaotic. At the start, Brando decided the entire wagon of birthday cakes belonged to him. And through it all, it was impossible not to smile.

The Best Kind of Celebration
As the last pieces of watermelon disappeared and wet snouts wandered off for afternoon naps, the excitement of the party slowly gave way to another ordinary day at the sanctuary.
For those who joined us on Instagram, Saturday was a chance to watch a herd of pigs celebrate with fruit cakes, happy snorts, and more than a little friendly competition over who had the best treats.
We hope it made you smile. It certainly had that affect on us.
But beneath all the laughter was something we never lose sight of.
Farmed animals are born into a world that rarely expects them to grow old. Most will never celebrate a birthday. Most will never know what it feels like to spend a summer afternoon with friends, to have favorite foods prepared just because someone knows they'll enjoy them, or to be loved simply for who they are.
Sanctuary exists in direct opposition to that reality.
Every day, we give medications, monitor changing mobility, schedule veterinary appointments, celebrate good news, and hold our breath through the difficult moments. We carefully plan every trip, every treatment, and every decision with one goal in mind: giving each resident the opportunity to live the fullest life possible.
So when a birthday arrives, we celebrate. Not because another year has passed, but because another year was possible. Another year of trust, friendships, ordinary mornings, and all the small moments that, together, become a life.
Saturday's celebration lasted only an afternoon.
The care, commitment, and compassion that made it possible continue every single day. Tomorrow morning, just as it did today, sanctuary life begins again.
