There are 10 "big pigs" that call the Full Circle home. Pigs have a social hierarchy and everyone must follow the rules that have been set amongst the herd. Hyacinth is at the top and the three "littles" are the lowest ranking members. The pigs have many options on where to explore & rest. The mud wallows and houses are quite popular. In fact, if you can't see them today it's because they're in one of these beloved locations.
Since farmed animals are meant to short lives, their bodies endure a tremendous amount of strain. Not only does this happen during their rapid growth process prior to slaughter, but also when they enter into safety and are allowed to age naturally. Due to the stress and conditions of their previous lives, and the genetic modification throughout generations, the residents require specialized care. From food monitoring to individualized medical plans, we give the residents everything they need to live their best and healthiest lives.
Like humans or even your dog at home, the residents can develop arthritis. This is especially true in the pigs. Maintaining their mobility is a top concern and we provide supplements and medication to aid their joint care . We have plans to expand a portion of this pasture to accommodate the pig residents with special mobility needs. This will allow them a safe space to heal and take it easy without long term confinement to the medical barn. Fundraising for this project will begin soon.
