Job Title: Animal Care Manager Job Status: Full Time Benefits: 90% Insurance Coverage (Medical, Vision, Dental); Vacation Job SummaryThe Animal Care Manager is responsible for supervising the animal caregivers, interns and volunteers, including creating schedules, task lists and training. The Animal Care manager will oversee all animal care process: daily feed, water, cleaning, health checks, etc. This person will coordinate on and offsite veterinary care for the animals and maintain animal care records and database and ensure treatment and feeding plans are followed. Animal Care Manager will develop and execute ongoing training programs for the Animal Care Team. The Animal Care Manager assists in the care of the animal residents living at the sanctuary.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Supervising and training Animal Caregivers, staff, interns and volunteers
Maintaining animal feed schedules
Implementing feeding/nutrition plans for animals based on individuals, species, seasons, etc.
Managing regular animal health checks (daily, weekly, monthly) and maintaining treatment and records.
Checks and treatments like (but not limited to): Conducting fecals, blood draws, blood testing, injections, cytologies, etc.
Administer medications, injections and supplements
Scheduling veterinary visits as needed and discussing medical decisions with veterinarians
Assisting with veterinary visits and setting up treatment protocols
Completing administrative tasks
Creating animal care staff schedule
Managing inventory and ordering animal care supplies, food and medications
Approving animal care staff timecards and time-off requests
Leading and making decisions in animal care emergencies
Filing animal care information, including medical records, ensure treatment plans are followed
Assist as necessary with cleaning, feeding, providing water, medicating and maintaining the animal habitats, shelters and other areas
Maintain neat and organized work and storage spaces
Weekly status meetings with the Executive Director and daily check-ins
Ensuring tools & medical equipment are kept in good condition
Work with ED to create and document enrichment programs for each species
Qualifications
Animal care and handling experience or vet tech experience
Supervisory and leadership experience
Good animal behavior and observation skills
Organized and detail oriented
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including cold/wet weather and hot summers
Able to lift 40 - 50 pounds and perform strenuous/manual labor
Strong communication and listening skills
Able to follow detailed instructions and meet time sensitive demands
Able to learn and process new information quickly
Team player and self-motivator, reliable and dependable
