Job Title: Animal Care Manager Job Status: Full Time Benefits: 90% Insurance Coverage (Medical, Vision, Dental); Vacation; Onsite Living Options Job Summary The Animal Care Manager assists in the care of the 150+ animals (pigs, chickens, cows, turkeys, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, alpacas, geese, ducks, guinea fowl and others) living at the sanctuary. The Animal Care Manager is responsible for assigning tasks and leading the day to day responsibilities of cleaning, feeding, and medical care of the animals. Supervise and train the animal caregivers and coordinating with the Operations manager to train and supervise interns and volunteers. The ability to engage in positive productive interactions with all staff, interns, volunteers and guests is critical to maintaining a cohesive work environment.
The Animal Care Manager is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, training, and managing cross functional areas with the Operations Manager.

Specific responsibilities include:
Management of animal feeding/watering and maintaining animal feed schedules
Management of daily animal health care and maintaining treatment records
Management of daily cleaning duties and maintaining the animal habitats, shelters and other areas
Management of species health checks (scheduling, executing and training staff)
Maintaining neat and organized work and storage spaces
Status meetings with the board and check-ins as needed
Coordinating with Operations Manager to train and supervise sanctuary interns and volunteers
Supervising and training Animal Caregivers
Inventory of supplies and ordering
Coordinating veterinary visits, medical decision and treatment protocols
Completing administrative projects as assigned
Creating animal care schedule
Approving timecards and time-off requests
Leading animal care meetings as needed
Leading and making decisions in animal care emergencies
Implementing feeding/nutrition plans for animals based on individuals, species, seasons, etc.
Conducting fecals, blood draws, blood testing, injections, cytologies, etc.
Filing animal care information, including medical records
Managing the assigned animal care budget to support overall organizational financial goals
Responsible for standard operating procedures for the animal care department
Works in partnership with the Operations Manager to develop, manage and execute standard operating procedures for both the Internship and Volunteer Programs
Specific qualifications include:
Previous leadership experience
Previous experience working with farmed animals
Passionate about working for and with farmed animals
Keen interest in the animal welfare/rights movement is encouraged
Reliable and dependable
Good observational skills of animal behavior
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including cold/wet weather and hot summers
Able to lift 40 - 50 pounds and perform strenuous/manual labor
Work well with a variety of people
Strong communication and listening skills
Able to follow detailed instructions and meet time sensitive demands
Able to learn and process new information quickly
Team player and self-motivator
